Why Olympia shares rose 5% in June

Shares of Olympia Capital Holdings (OCH) gained 5% in June to end the month at Ksh2.54. Olympia is an investment firm with a diversified portfolio. Its main investments are companies that manufacture and sell construction materials. It is also into real estate business. Olympia has investment in companies in Kenya, Botswana and South Africa.

Olympia shares rose in June after the company reported a profit for the financial year ended February 2019, reversing the loss it suffered in the previous year. The company made a profit of Ksh5.7 million in its 2019 financial year, compared a loss of Ksh3.5 million in the 2018 financial year. The firm’s revenue for the latest financial jumped nearly 12% to Ksh512.7 million.

Investors liked Olympia’s strong comeback, sending it shares up in June. Olympia was listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange in 1976.
